Home Repairs

Travis had a few days off work this last week, so we (mostly he) was able to get a lot done. We repainted our living room and hallway, and the ceilings in the living room and hallway. We also repainted the hallway baseboards and door frames and half of the livingroom baseboards (I'll try to finish those this week...) Travis also put a new toilet in our main bath, and we bought some new linoleum for the main bath yippee! Now when we have company, I won't have to give the "How to Flush the Fifty-year old Toilet" speech, which went something like this... "If you go #1, and you only use a few small pieces of toilet paper to wipe, you can flush, but make sure you hold the handle down for 45 seconds. If you go #2, then go #2, and then flush BEFORE you wipe, holding the handle down for a FULL 45 SECONDS. Then wipe. If you need to wipe more than 3 times, make sure to flush again (again, holding the handle down for 45 seconds). If the flushing process doesn't work, don't even attempt to flush again until the tank has COMPLETELY STOPPED running, which will take 3-5 minutes. When the tank has stopped running, you can try to flush again. But again, if you don't hold the handle down for a FULL 45 seconds, you will need to wait 3-5 minutes, and try again..." No wonder most people would rather "hold it" or company would usually make a quick trip to the corner gas station... Now, you can actually GO in our house! Hooray for NEW TOILETS!

While Travis was putting in the new toilet, He dropped a bolt down the creepy sewer hole...and his arm was too big to fit down there....ewww, so I had to reach down the toilet hole to get it, but only after I had on a rubber glove and wrapped my arm in plastic wrap...

That's scary....glad you had the proper protection for your arm and that you have a new toilet. :)

Ha ha! In 10 years or so you'll go back and read this entry about your "how to use the toilet speech" and laugh. You'll probably think to yourself "I can't believe we did that for all those years". This was a fun post to read :) thanks.

You are brave, I love the plastic wrap, I probably would have just stuck my hand down there, and then chased you around the house yelling "I got a poop arm" In a really loud obnoxious voice. that would have been really fun!!! Oh yeah, this is Joel, not Kally:)

I saw the photo FIRST before I saw the explanation and my first words were, "What the heck is she doing?" and "WHY?" I don't think I could've even done that even with the glove & Saran wrap -- I'd start gagging, eyes watering, wretching, etc. etc. It's all psychological!!

gross!!!!!
you are braver than I.
yeah for a new toilet! that explanation cracked me up--I think I would have preferred going in the bushes :)

Good job on being so brave! I'm glad you got a new toilet. Your old one sounds worse than mine. We have one that we have to flush multiple times in a single use also. It's pretty annoying. It's supposed to be a water saving variety. It just makes it so we have to flush it more often, so we aren't saving any water.

Joel, I thought that that was Kally and I was thinking " what a brave girl to not wear anything over her arm!" Any ways, Brenda good for you! The plastic wrap rocks!

Oh, how fun to get new paint, linoleum and a TOILET!!! I feel like I've missed out not getting to go at your house... Actually, Kory's parents have a toilet very similar to that. Maybe that would be a good Christmas present for them this year! A few years go we got them new heater vent covers because theirs were so loud and squeaky. Whenever the heater turned on, the vent things would flap back and forth and we wouldn't get any sleep.... His mom was actually very grateful!
